The Performance

The record is a spoken-word, audio rendering of an account included in the publication Beyond Imagination/Zona de Crepúsculo — itself a literary interpretation of a performance of the same title presented in the Pijnappel’s solo exhibition at the Iberê Camargo Foundation, Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2018. Manipulating the notions of translation, interpretation and memory, the text is woven into a radio play with three narrators and tongue-in-cheek, improvised, audio effects. The record is English spoken and comes with a printed translation of the account into Portuguese. The Performance was recorded live — in one take — by the sound artists Arturas Bumšteinas and Kristupas Gikasfor, as part of their exhibition Voice Turnings at die raum. It includes the participation of Nathan Gray, Jeremy Coubrough and Sada Sherrin.
