Hasta que los Cantos Broten – Until the Songs Spring

This book, edited by Catalina Lozano and Mauricio Marcin, gathers diverse contributions that delve into the issues addressed at Until the Songs Spring, the Mexican Pavilion at the 59 Biennale di Venezia in 2022. Paying attention to the complexities embedded in the very idea of the Mexican Nation-State, the project sought to explore the innumerable layers of meaning that the concept of coloniality brings about. From critically analysing the constructs of modernity, to expanding notions critical to it and looking in more depth to the works of the four artists – Mariana Castillo Deball, Naomi Ricón Gallardo, Fernando Palma Rodríguez and Santiago Borja – this compilation includes historical texts republished and in many cases, for the first time, translated into Spanish or English, new commissioned essays, and visual contributions.
