Mophradat in Marseille: Lentil Space
Generously hosted by Les Grandes Tables and Triangle-Astérides, Mophradat is happy to visit Marseille to present its most recent publication, Lentil Space: Recipes From Artists’ Homes. The cookbook, adapted from its namesake online program produced by Mophradat from 2021 to 2023, includes recipes chosen and prepared by artists. It is a celebration of the varied cuisine of the Arab world and its relationship with inherited food practices and the culture of gathering and talking around food.
For the event, two of the book’s contributors, filmmaker Jihan El-Tahri and choreographer Nadim Bahsoun, will engage the audiences with food and stories around food.
Jihan is an Egyptian French director, producer, writer, and visual artist. She was the director of DOX BOX between 2019 and 2023. Her award-winning documentaries include Nasser (TIFF official selection), Behind the Rainbow, Cuba: An African Odyssey, and the Emmy-nominated House of Saud. Her work as a visual artist has been exhibited in various international biennials, including the Berlin Biennale (2022) and Dak’Art (2018). Her writings include Les Sept Vies de Yasser Arafat (Grasset) and The Fifty Years War: Israel and the Arabs (Penguin). Jihan is also engaged in various associations and institutions working with African cinema. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) since 2017.

He has taught at the University of Nice and is regularly invited as a guest artist in dance education programs such as at the Institut Supérieur des Arts et Chorégraphies (ISAC), The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, and the department of Performing Arts and Live Entertainment, Université Paris 8. Nadim is currently touring with Fouad Boussouf and Olivia Granville as part of the national choreographic centres (CCN) in France. He is also working with Nadia Beugré (Ivory Coast), Mona El Yafi (France), David Wampach (France), Samar Haddad King (Palestine), Eric Minh (France), and Ahmed Ayed (Tunisia/Belgium). In Berlin, he is collaborating on a hybrid contemporary opera with writer Eyad Houssami and participating in a queer film project with Egyptian artist Mohammad Shawky Hassan.
Les Grandes Tables are restaurants that are also places for meetings, culinary and cultural exchanges, and for reflection on cuisine and food. In Calais, Marseille, and Clermont-Ferrand, the spirit of Les Grandes Tables is nourished by and in dialogue with the history, architecture, and programming of the cultural venues in which they are located.
Triangle-Astérides is a center for contemporary art of national interest based in Marseille at La Friche la Belle de Mai, a cultural cooperative located in a former tobacco factory, since 1994.
